BenefitsThere are numerous benefits to buying wine Ex Cellars. |
Securing the wine you wantFirst and foremost it is a way of securing an allocation of the wine you want at the best possible price direct from the chateau. There is only a finite quantity of wine produced each year by each chateau and there is no guarantee that it will be available to purchase further down the line in the UK. Buying wine Ex Cellars, especially in good vintages such as 1982, 1990, 2000, 2005 and most recently 2009 enables you to secure top drawer wines that will almost certainly be more expensive once available on the open market. |
Buying for investmentIf you are interested in buying wine as an investment then buying ex cellars and storing wine under bond is essential. It is only in this way that a wines provenance is guaranteed and you will also avoid paying both duty and VAT by doing this. If you take delivery of a wine bought for investment and store it in your own cellar, it will be more difficult to sell at a later date as there are no guarantees that your cellar / garage / cupboard under the stairs is ideal for storing wine at the right temperature. We recommend storing wine with R.S. Hicks Ltd, run by Ronnie Hicks MW. The wine is stored at favourable rates at Octavian in Wiltshire, one of the best facilities in the country. Storage rates include insurance at replacement value and each year you will receive a statement listing your wines, their drinking dates and their current replacement values. |
The best wines from the best vintagesHicks & Don have been selling wines Ex Cellars since the 1960s and many of our customers still have these vintages in their cellars which is testament to the quality of wines we select. Whilst we offer Bordeaux in every vintage, with a particular focus on petits chateaux and crus bourgeois wines, we only offer other regions when we feel the quality is up to scratch. In the last 12 months we have offered Rhone 2007, Chablis 2008 and Beaujolais 2009. We will be visiting Burgundy later this year to taste the 2009 vintage with a view to offering a selection in early 2011. |
